A popular coastal resort located in the south of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca was until recent years just a small fishing village. Now the biggest resort in the south of the island it has fine sandy beaches and a good selection of facilities. The resort is also the main ferry port for the island of Fuerteventura.

Playa Blanca Fiestas: There are a number of fiestas and festivals held throughout the year, both in the resort itself and in the surrounding towns and villages, 2 of the main ones are the Town Carnival (held just before Easter), and the festival of Nuestra Señora del Carmen (held in July).
Playa Blanca Shopping: Town centre, central promenade and Marina Rubicon.
Playa Blanca Market: The weekly street market is held on Wednesdays.
Accommodation: There is plenty of holiday accommodation to choose from in the resort from 5 Star hotels to privately owned self-catering apartments, detached villas with pools (such as in the Parque del Rey complex), or even camping in the Camping de Papagayo site, it all depends on your requirements but you should find something to suit whatever your tastes. The recommended choice is to rent one of the many fine Playa Blanca villas that are on offer, for extra luxury, choose one with its own pool.

Playa Blanca History: Basically a built for tourism resort, Playa Blanca was, until recent years just a tiny fishing community. Surrounded by sparse volcanic lava fields the town would have had a small population up until the arrival of tourism. Lanzarote was originally occupied by the Guanches, an ancient race of unknown origin, who were wiped out by the arrival of the Spanish during the 16th century.

Playa Blanca Golf: Unfortunately for golf enthusiasts, there is no golf course in Playa Blanca itself, the nearest (and currently only course on Lanzarote) is at Costa Teguise, to the north east of the resort.
Playa Blanca can be accessed by road via the LZ-2 (Arrecife-Tias-Yaiza) it is about 33 kilometres from Arrecife airport, it can also be reached by ferry from Corralejo on the island of Fuerteventura (Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas).
